Things to do in Oakville

Oakville is home on Lake Ontario and is a suburban town that is part of the Toronto area. The town offers many different attractions and events throughout the year for both residents and visitors alike. Oakville hosts five events each year that bring visitors from across the country.

 OakvilleThings to do in OakvilleThe Oakville Waterfront Festival was held every year in June since 1982 until 2010. The festival was cancelled for 2011 and 2012 due to financial issues, however, in August of 2013 the festival was held again hosted by the Oakville Coronation Park. At this time, it is not known if the festival will be held again. However, the festival drew a crowd of 100,000 visitors each year and provided free concerts, amusement park rides, food, drinks, arts and crafts along with a fireworks display each night. A few of the entertainers from past festivals included Finger Eleven, Jesse Cook, Colin James, Tom Cochrane, Jann Arden, and Bedouin Soundclash.

The Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival is held every year during the summer months. Since its debut in 1992 the free event has draw visitors from across the country to enjoy the music heard from stages set up in Downtown Oakville along Lakeshore Road East.

In springtime just before summer begins visitors and guests can enjoy For the Love of the Arts hosted by CommUnity Arts Space. The event began in 2002 and is sponsored by private donations and local corporations. The event offers local crafts, talent, dance performances, literary art, skills, theatre groups as well as music performances.

During the month of July, you can enjoy visiting local vendors and stores that wish to display their new products or to provide discounts on products, known as Midnight Madness. The street festival will keep you busy as you visit the various shops and watch local artists perform on stages.

The third weekend in June is a family affair with Oakville Family Ribfest. The Sheridan College hosts the event every year providing food vendors, activities for the little ones, food vendors, live music and of course ribs.

While visiting Oakville during one of the above events, you may wish to explore the town itself and enjoy the various attractions including the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts which hosts visual arts, literary figures, and films as well as being the venue where you can enjoy the Oakville Ballet Company, the Oakville Children’s Choir, and the Oakville Symphony Orchestra.

The Oakville Galleries is a wonderful place to spend a few hours offering over 1,000 works of art located at Centennial Square and the Oakville Galleries located in East Oakville known as Gairloch Gardens.
