How to remove aluminum sliding windows

The good maintenance of each component of the house is the basis for living in a comfortable environment. Each element requires constant and rigorous maintenance. The window frames and windows in aluminum are part of this work. In some cases, a simple replacement of a piece or adding insulation material is enough to repair the window. So it will be enough to simply seal the window panes with silicone to obtain discreet results. But if the damage is more complex, such as removing and replacing the glass, it will be necessary to disassemble them. To do this, it is essential to use the right tools to carry out an excellent restructuring job without investing in exaggerated economic figures. So make sure you have everything you need and get started.

You will need:

  • Plier
  • Screwdriver
  • Line
  • Squad
  • Gloves
  • Hammer
  • Awl
  • Cloth
  • Table
  • Fine sandpaper
  • Silicone

Remove the window

The first thing you need to do is to remove the aluminum window from the frame. To do this, simply lift it and remove it from its seat. To not damage it, remove the gaskets, keep them, and then reassemble them at the end of the work. Remove the latches from the window and lift them with both hands. While if you have a window with a sliding sash, cut the chain that supports it and let the sash slide down into the frame. After that, place the window on a base.

Lay down the window

At this point, place the window on a strong and resistant base (for example, a table). Or fix two sturdy trestles to the ground and start the dismantling work. The window must be placed in such a way as to orient the gaskets towards the side, i.e., with the external facade upwards, so that you can work on it with tranquility). This work will allow you to disassemble the window to carry out renovations and replace a broken glass (work that requires the total disassembly of the frame).

Remove the screws

To disassemble the window, you must remove the screws necessary to remove the rod and all the other elements that will allow you to access the internal part of the frame. Then proceed to disassemble the screws that secure the fascia, remove the cap and proceed to disassemble the handle by removing the screws that hold it stable. At this point, as you can see, the window rod is completely free. Once this is done, also unscrew the screws of the fascia and go to the next step.

Unscrew the brackets

Finally, go on to unscrew the brackets. With the help of medium pliers, loosen the window brackets to take the anchor button (the latter must be pushed to extract the base for a few millimeters). At this point, it is sufficient to pull the glass inside the window (after removing the side seals the glass can be removed easily, just pull it patiently to complete the job). For more information, or in case of difficulty in disassembly, I suggest you contact an expert hardware store in the fixtures sector.

When doing this work, wear gloves and a protective mask. When disassembling the windows, put aside the various elements (handles and various gaskets).
